The training explores four major approaches to understanding the psychic apparatus:

  •  The Economical Approach

    Examines psychic forces involved in desire, inhibition, and psychic energy. Topics include drives, instincts, and the principles governing the psychic apparatus.

  • The Dynamic Approach

    Focuses on unconscious conflict, anxiety, distress, and defense mechanisms.

  •  The Structural Approach

    Studies the organization of the psychic apparatus through the models of:

    * Unconscious / Preconscious / Conscious

    * Id / Ego / Superego

  • The Developmental Approach
